Terukiの英語力について書いてくれと言われたけど、
そんなの意識したことがないから、どう書いていいかわからないね。
つまり、こう言えばいいかな、
普段彼の英語がネイティブじゃないなんて
意識することがないくらい自然だってこと。
うん、その方がいい言い方だよね！
僕が（カナダ）陸軍に勤めている関係で、
国際政治の話とかを彼ともするけど、
彼は外国語（第二言語）で
政治の話を普通にしているのだから大したものだと思うよ。
（原文） I was asked to write about Teruki's English,
but to be honest I've never thought about that
and I don't know what to say.
Well, I mean, his English is so natural
that I have never had to think t
hat he is not an English native.
Maybe that's a better way to say it!
Since I work for the army,
I often talk about international politics with him.
I think this is really far reaching of him
that he can do it with his second language.

彼の英語は素晴らしいです。
実は会社である日本語の文章を扱わなければならないことがあったので、
日本人スタッフがいるというプロの翻訳会社に依頼したのです。
でも、送られてきた英語の内容が、何かおかしくて理解できない。
そんな時、たまたま機会があったので彼に文章を見てもらったのです。
すると、その後数十分もたたないうちに間違いを全部見つけるだけでなく、
訂正までしてくれて、大変助かりました。
彼はネイティブのように英語を話すので、
未だに彼が最近までずっと日本に住んでいたことが信じられません。
（原文） Teruki's English is fabulous.
I once had to deal with a Japanese document at work
and I had a professional translation company
with Japanese staff translate
that document.However,
there was something wrong with the translated English
and I couldn't understand what it said!
I asked Teruki to look at the document
when he happened to be around
and then he not only found the mistakes
but corrected all of them in 20-30 minutes.
It really helped me.
He speaks English as if he were an English native speaker
and I still can't believe he had lived in Japan until very recently.

彼（Teruki）については、
英語力が日本人の知り合いや生徒を含めても群を抜いていたので、
その英語習得法には興味があり聞きました。
その時は興味深いと思ったものの、それ以上には何も思いませんでした。
しかし、たまたまその後CanadaのMemorial大学というところの
教育学部で第二言語習得について学んだ時、
授業中教授がいう事の多くが彼が言っていた事と共通していたのです！
そこで、彼の学習方法をどう思うか私の教授のひとりに聞いてみたのです。
するとその教授の答えは
「うん、日本人(Japanese speakers)が英語を習得する方法としては、
今のところそうするのが一番効率が良いだろうね」
というものでした。
だから、彼の英語は
全然他の多くの日本人と違ったのだ・・・と納得しました。
（原文）Since Teruki's English is far ahead of my English students
or acquaintances in Japan,
I was really interested how he learned English.
I asked him before about it and he told me.
I thought it was interesting
but not more than that at that point.
Then, I studied second language acquisition
at Memorial University in Canada
and a lot of things my profs said were the same as Teruki was saying!
I also asked one of the profs
what he thought about Terukis method
and he said "For Japanese speakers,
that sounds like the most effecient way."
That explained a lot about why Teruki's English was so great!
